Matcha and clay in nature 19.09
As summer softens into autumn, we're gathering around one long table: in the greenhouse or out in the garden, for a relaxing and inspiring morning with matcha and clay.
We'll begin with a mindful matcha workshop: whisking, tasting, and talking about the ritual. From there, we'll move into clay: working with the garden itself as inspiration. Blooming flowers, seed pods, leaves, bark textures: we'll look closely at what's around us and let it shape what we make.
No prior experience needed, just your curiosity.
Date: Saturday 19 September, 11:30 - 14:30
€85 per person - all materials, glazing, and firing included.
Plan of the day:
1. Mindful Matcha Ritual
A grounding workshop exploring the centuries-old art of Japanese matcha. Discover the benefits of matcha for creativity and focus and create your own tea ritual.
Together we will dive into the history and benefits of matcha before getting to know the traditional tools and whisking techniques and learning the steps to prepare our own bowl of matcha in both traditional and modern ways, along with homemade Japanese sweets.
Your host:
Franziska is the founder of Atelier Kyō, a studio for Japanese tea, exploring the depth and variety of authentic Japanese matcha. Building upon her experience working on a small tea farm in rural Japan and her background in design, she brings the cultural heritage of matcha into modern life through carefully sourced teas, mindful workshops, and sensory experiences.
2. Nature inspired handbuilding session
We’ll guide you through the basics of handbuilding, exploring simple techniques for shaping and texturing clay. No previous ceramic experience is needed. You can follow the theme of the day and create your own matcha vessel, or let the garden inspire you to make something completely different.
It’s the same idea we always come back to at Clay Stories: slow down, work with your hands, and let a little nature and good company do the rest.
What to expect:
